SURA 4 VERSE 15 If any of your women Are guilty of lewdness, Take the evidence of four (Reliable) witnesses from amongst you Against them; and if they testify, Confine them to houses until Death do claim them, Or Allah ordain for them Some (other) way
VERSE 16 If two persons among you Are guilty of lewdness, Punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone; for Allah Is Oft-returning, Most Merciful.
VERSE 17 Allah Accepts the repentance Of those who do evil In ignorance and repent Soon afterwards; to them Will Allah tum in mercy: For Allah is full of knowledge And wisdom.

Meaning : Another trick, to detract from the freedom of married women was to treat them badly and force them to sue for a Khul'a divorce or its equivalent in pre-Islamic custom, when the dower could be claimed back. This is also forbidden. Or the harshness may be exercised in another way; a divorced woman may be prevented by those who have control of her, from re-marrying unless she remits her dower. All kinds of harshness are forbidden.
